Without letting go, the people in the group twisted and turned and ducked under other people's arms until they untied the knot of arms and formed not one circle, but two. Through the fun of mixer games like that one, laughter yoga, food and conversation, people got to know each other a little better at a recent Meet and Mingle.
The group is a new option in Duluth for people looking for friendship or that special someone. The group meets from 6 to 10 p. Tuesdays at the A. Charles Weiss Inn, an elegant old mansion that serves as a bed and breakfast. She said she wanted to offer a nice, safe and relaxed place for singles 30 and older to meet instead of the bars. Although the group was started with singles in mind, Edwards said they also want to open it to couples who want to develop friendships with other people or who want to attend and bring along a single friend.
The group began July 1 and still is developing. On a recent Tuesday night, the people who attended were game for any of the mixer games that came up.
They took turns picking up a paper bag on the floor with their teeth while balancing on one foot. With each round, the bag was cut and became smaller and harder to pick up.
The people in the group cheered each other on and gave each other tips on how to accomplish the task. The winner received a coupon for free admission to a Meet and Mingle gathering. Later, Lee led the group in a session of laughter yoga. People warmed up their laughter engines you place a finger in your navel and crank the engine , then pretended to stuff their mouths with marshmallows, milk a cow and hum like a hummingbird.
